African Development Bank will invest $24 billion in African agriculture

According to a report by Nigeria’s "Sniper" on September 26, Dr. Adeshina, president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), revealed at an agricultural conference held at Purdue University in Indianapolis on Wednesday that the African Development Bank will invest in the next 10 years. $24 billion is spent on developing African agriculture, lifting billions of people around the world from hunger. This is the largest investment plan ever. Dr. Adesina pointed out that the United Nations-published “World Food Security and Nutrition” statistics show that the global population living on less than two dollars a day is decreasing. But the reality is that the number of hungry people in the world has increased from 777 million in 2015 to 815 million in 2016. Dr. Adesina said that there is a strong need for technical support in African agriculture. The current simple science and technology has already had an impact on agricultural production and income in Africa. The bank has launched a $1 billion African Agricultural Transformation Technology Initiative to work with seed companies, entities and financial institutions in 27 countries to provide agricultural technology to 40 million African farmers. According to him, a recent report by the International Food Policy Research Institute estimates that by 2050, Africa will add 38 million hungry people due to climate change. The Institute also predicts that by 2020 and beyond, there will be severe food shortages in Africa, and malnutrition will rise in the next 20 years.
